Biographical Information
Fr. Vincent Lampert grew up in a large Roman Catholic family that was active in the faith on the west side of Indianapolis, Indiana. For a couple of years he studied political sciences at Indiana University before transferring to the Saint Meinrad Seminary to study for the priesthood He was ordained in 1991, so he’s been a priest for about thirty years… …and is currently the Pastor of two parishes in Brookville, Indiana: St. Peter’s and also at St. Michael the Archangel. He has been the designated exorcist of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis for the last fifteen years, being appointed in 2005. And finally, he has recently published his book, Exorcism: The Battle Against Satan and His Demons.

- The next thing is our drink-of-the-week. Since we’re recording this at lunchtime I’m drinking a bizarre combination. I use a little bit of Cucumber and Lime Gatoraid as a cordial and then top it up with sparkling water. It might sound weird, but it’s very refreshing.

- Fr. Vincent, could you please kick things off by telling us a little bit about your religious background and journey to the priesthood?
- Obviously, we’re a C.S. Lewis podcast, whom we affectionately call “Jack”. Have you had much contact with his works?
- So, you are the exorcist of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis – how did that come about?
- Why do you think you in particular were chosen by your bishop?
- What was your training like?
- The Gospel-writer Luke distinguishes between sick people and possessed people that Jesus cures, which makes sense given that he was a doctor. What criteria have to be met to help you distinguish between medical issues, psychological issues and a real demonic possession? Or is there some kind of relationship between them all?
- We’ve recently read a letter from Screwtape where he says that the demons generally don’t reveal themselves today. Do you think that’s true?
- You’ve recently published a book, Exorcism: The Battle Against Satan and His Demons. I’m sure you’re a busy man, so what motivated you to write this book? Why did you think it was needed?
- What happens after someone reaches out to you for an exorcism? What’s the process?
- What’s the real rite of exorcism like?
- What is the role of things like crucifixes and holy water?
- People have seen movies about exorcists. What do they get right and what do they get wrong?
- Obviously in your role as exorcist is important in opposing evil, but what can we as laymen (non-ordained Christians) do?
- Whenever the topic of spiritual evil and demons comes up, so does the topic of Harry Potter. I’ve heard some Christians say that it has helped their faith and others that it’s the worst thing ever. Those who are in the anti-Potter camp because of the presence of magic will often make exceptions for J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and Lewis’ own Chronicles of Narnia. What’s your thoughts on the matter?
